Several of our STRETCH students have been involved in Math Team this school year. We went to the Seabury Math competition in the winter and just today competed in the Math Matters competition at Maui Waena Middle School. What a great experience for our students. They did awesome; bringing home 3rd place in the team competition. It was a "girl power" team as the announcer described them including; 5th graders Lilah Li, Kathryn O'Neill, 4th grader Zariah Birrer, and 3rd grader Jaelia Olaitman. Lilah Li was the top individual scorer with a 34/35 on the individual challenge. Other team members included; James McCall, Grace Wright, Emma Fusato and Lance Morikawa. Thank you to Mrs. Jos Akoi (a fourth grade teacher at kula) and Mrs. Kara Fusato (an awesome volunteer parent) for helping our Kula students be successful. So exciting! Thanks to our MEDB Ke Alahele Grant we were able to get each child a candy Lei and the entire Math Team including those who were unable to attend the competition will enjoy a pizza party to celebrate a successful year of math growth.
